I live in Woolgoolga.
Our local Woolworths is shopping central for the whole area. It is a stand alone supermarket.
The management did facilitate the use of a toilet for shoppers. The emphasis on DID. Now you have to find someone with a key to open the toilet. That could take too long in some circumstances.
Research has shown that 20% of shoppers have what is known as “loo leash.” Which means that they do not like to leave home unless they know there is a toilet close by. People who have had prostrate problems, mothers with children, pregnant, and older men and women, people with a disability. The list goes on. It is truely unfortunate that the management of this Woolworths store has decided to discriminate against 20 % of their customers.
To make the toilet facilities available without having to ask for a key would be appreciated by many patrons.
I do understand that there may be an exerted effort required to make sure these facilities are kept clean, but at lease you will retain customers. I have heard from other customers that they also have a stand alone Woolworths that locks the toilet.
With the huge profits that this company makes, it seems ludicrous that you can’t supply a toilet and wash basin that is accessible to patrons.
I will be taking this further should the situation not be addressed in a positive way.
Sincerely
Elizabeth Wright
Ps: The nearest supermarket is a Coles 20 min away by car. It is not a stand alone supermarket, and the facilities are extremely good.
